Summary:

This recipe showcases an effective way to bring undergraduates into contact with graduates from the same School and course. These Alumni often have successful professional careers and the format can be expanded to be used with any external or internal guest participants too.

Professional creative teams (of two people) working in creative advertising, located in different locations around the world, are invited to join students via Collaborate Ultra. The video link is then broadcast onto a large screen, so that a two-way conversation can take place.

The academic leads a question and answer session, taking questions from the student audience, passing them onto the guests and inviting responses. The full session lasts for around one hour. It forms part of the ‘employability’ strand of this module. Having the chance to engage with graduates in successful careers is particularly encouraging for current students.

The technology provides an opportunity for current students to ask questions of and gain experience from recent graduates. This technique is simple to set up and uses technologies that most are already familiar with. These events always have a high attendance rate, and students have asked for more sessions like this.

Further development:

To develop this activity further, a panel of graduates could be utilised to help give feedback on current student projects
