Turnitin Help & Support

Preventing early marks release on Turnitin

On the new Turnitin integration to Bb, Turnitin no longer hides or unhides the corresponding Grade Centre column based on Post Date settings. Staff now need to i) manually set the relevant Grade Centre column to ‘hide from students’ when creating the submission point and ii) manually set the relevant Grade Centre column to ‘unhide from students’ when it is time to release marks.

To check if your column needs hiding, there are three main steps.

Step 1: Clarify if the column associated with the Turnitin submission point needs hiding?

The Grade Centre column associated with the Turnitin submission point does not need hiding if:

  • You have already released the grades to students
  • You are using anonymous marking on these modules
  • You are on the Ultra pilot

If any of the above apply to your module, no action is required.

If you have an assessment where i) the due date has not yet occurred or ii) you are currently in the marking stage, you may need to hide the Grade Centre column associated with the Turnitin submission point.

Step 2: How to hide the column

To hide the column:

  • Go to Full Grade Centre on the Bb site
  • Click the chevron next the relevant column, and
  • Toggle the ‘Hide from Students (On/Off)’  option until there is a red line through it.

When there is a red line through the column name, it indicates the column is hidden from students. You may also want to hide the Total column is hidden if this is unhidden.

Step 3: Releasing marks and additional information

On the day/time of marks release, please unhide the column in Grade Centre.

  • Go to Full Grade Centre on the Bb site
  • Click the chevron next the relevant column, and
  • Toggle the ‘Hide from Students (On/Off)’  option until there is no red line through it.
