Poll Everywhere Help & Support

Signing Up and Creating an Account with Poll Everywhere

This helpsheet will explain how you can sign up and create an account with Poll Everywhere.

Creating an account with Poll Everywhere at the University of Lincoln

Although supported across the University and available to all staff and students, Poll Everywhere is not Single Sign On (SSO) which means you cannot login automatically with your username and password as you can with other platforms.

In order to register for an account:

  1. Please email digitaleducation@lincoln.ac.uk to request access to Poll Everywhere. A member of the team will get back to you and will add you to the University of Lincoln account.
  1. You will receive an email from Poll Everywhere directly inviting you to join the University of Lincoln account. When you receive this email, you need to click the ‘Accept Invitation’ button.

  1. After clicking the button, you will be directed to the sign up page for Poll Everywhere. Please make sure you set up an account using your University of Lincoln email address as if you don’t you will not be added to the University licence and will be unable to use the full version of Poll Everywhere.

Please note: Even if you are not planning to use text message (SMS) response with your students, you should make sure you select ‘United Kingdom’ from the dropdown for the question ‘What country will you be texting from’. This is not shown in the image above.

  1. Click the ‘Sign up for my Poll Everywhere account’ button.

  1. You will now be able to login and use your Poll Everywhere account. Please login at polleverywhere.com when you wish to use the tool.

What if I already have an account?

You may find you already have a free account set up with Poll Everywhere before the tool was supported centrally at the University of Lincoln. In this case, you can migrate your account to the pro version of Poll Everywhere which the University now supports.

Please note: for the steps below to work, your pre-existing account must have been created in your University of Lincoln email address. If it wasn’t then you will need to follow the steps in the first half of this helpsheet to create a new account from scratch in your University of Lincoln email address.

  1. Please email digitaleducation@lincoln.ac.uk to request access to Poll Everywhere. A member of the team will get back to you and will add you to the University of Lincoln account.
  1. You will receive an email from Poll Everywhere directly inviting you to join the University of Lincoln account.
  1. When you receive this email, you need to click the ‘Accept Invitation’ button. However, before you click this button, please ensure that you are already logged into your pre-existing Poll Everywhere account in your web browser.

If you are logged into your pre-existing account when you click the ‘Accept invitation’ button, your account will be upgraded to the pro version of Poll Everywhere.

If you are not signed in you will be directed to the usual sign up page as per step 3 at the start of this helpsheet.

  1. Once your account has been upgraded you can make use of pro features of Poll Everywhere and continue to use the tool as before. You will not lose access to any of your previously created polls, these will be migrated along with your account to the University’s pro licence of Poll Everywhere.

What if I want my students to have accounts?

Usually, students would not need an account in order to use Poll Everywhere. They can access and respond to polls in the same way anyone else would, by visiting your pollev.com url and replying in their web browser on any compatible device.

However, sometimes it is advisable that students are given accounts to access Poll Everywhere. This would usually be the case if you are planning to make use of Poll Everywhere over the course of a module, as part of an assessment, or if you wish to review students’ progress and use of Poll Everywhere over a period of time.

Some of the benefits of student accounts:

  • Students login with their University of Lincoln student email which is familiar to them.
  • Student names are attached to all responses so they can be tracked
  • Better reports can be generated which track a student’s progress over a period of weeks
  • You can see all the responses of an individual student

Please note: Without registered accounts, all response to polls are recorded anonymously and the only detail that is saved to Poll Everywhere is the IP address of the user.

To set up accounts for your students, please email digitaleducation@lincoln.ac.uk and a member of the team will be in touch to discuss the options with you. If student accounts are deemed to be appropriate in your case, we can automatically create these via the Blackboard module site of your chosen cohort. The students will then receive an email asking them to sign up for an account and they should then follow steps 1-5 as set out at the top of this helpsheet.
