Notice – Computer Audio Capture on University-Issued Mac Devices

If you are using Panopto to record on a university-issued Mac device, please be aware that the “Capture Computer Audio” feature is currently unavailable.

Attempting to use this feature will prompt you to install a plugin that requires administrator privileges.

Due to a security and permissions issue, this installation has been disabled and is being addressed by Panopto.

What does the “Capture Computer Audio” feature do? The “Capture Computer Audio” option allows you to record the audio output from your computer, such as system sounds, application audio, and any media played on your device.
For example software for music editing, videos like YouTube, Padlet’s with posts that require audio, demonstration of a digital tool and want to capture the sounds it makes or recordings of spoken instruction.

Impact of this issue: Without the ability to use the “Capture Computer Audio” feature, you will not be able to record any audio that is played directly from your computer during your Panopto sessions. This does not impact the recording of audio by the microphone such as your voice or student voices as this is controlled by the audio input.

This issue does not affect individuals using personal Mac devices.
