Before exploring AI, we recommend looking at the information within this pages, which will give you an overview of what generative AI is and how it works. We have also pulled together some information on the strengths and limitations that impact the use of AI. It’s important to understand AI tools and the considerations you may need to think about before using them.

The limitations and strengths mentioned on this page are generalised; however, exploration of AI is important to ensure that staff and students have the opportunity to see how tools can be effectively embedded at the University. Every generative AI, although based around the same principles, will work slightly differently, and have different outputs depending on the information it holds. There are a range of free generative chat bots that are powered by AIs (e.g. Bing Chat, Google Bard, Claude AI) that can give you an opportunity to experiment with these tools.
