Opening a Module to Students

Ahead of the start of each academic year, Blackboard modules are created from the curriculum in OneUni, and by default these module sites are set to be locked or private to students, allowing the module team time to construct the module content and assessment submission points prior to student access.

Any instructor on the module can unlock the module for students to begin accessing the content by following the steps below.

  1. Firstly, access the My BB Sites tab of Blackboard, and locate the module you wish to open.
  2. Secondly, hover your mouse over the module card and select the more options menu (the ellipsis icon).
  3. Option 1: From the menu that appears, select Course Settings.
The My BB Sites page is shown with the search bar populated to reveal one Module. The More Actions menu is opened and an orange box highlights the option to enter course settings.
  1. Option 2: Alternatively, from within your module, click on the Course Settings option in the top-right-hand corner of the site page.
The main menu of a module homepage is shown. An orange box highlights the option to open course settings.
  1. Next, locate the Course Status heading, you will find an option to either Open or Close the course. If you are ready for your students to begin accessing the module and the learning materials you have created, select the Open – based on course duration option.
The Course Access menu is shown in a Blackboard Ultra Course. An orange box highlights a checkbox open titled "Open". This has a grey outline to show it can be clicked and selected.
