Digital Accessibility & Blackboard Ally

11:00-12:00

Description

Accessibility in teaching, learning and assessment benefits all students. In this practical session, we will start by looking at accessibility legislation and the rationale for an accessible-first approach, discussing what this means in Higher Education. We will also identify how modifiable content can help to meet a wide range of needs with fewer interventions. In small groups, you will access tools and services that can support you to better understand how to improve the accessibility of existing learning resources and materials, which you will practice within the session. Finally, we will use Blackboard Ally and MS 365 to review and interpret data from our own modules and programmes, identifying common areas for improvement and how to action the changes.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session you will be able:

  • To recognise accessibility legislation and its impact on Higher Education.
  • To explain the rationale for an accessible-first approach.
  • To explore internal and external accessibility guidance (i.e. Toolkits, WCAG and WebAIM).
  • To collaborate as a group to improve the accessibility of learning resources.
  • To interpret and action Blackboard Ally and MS 365 accessibility data.
